When I asked Richard Branson that question over dinner at his retreat in Verbier, his answer was simple…

“It’s the brand”

Ok. Great. Got it.

Makes sense.

“But wait, it can’t be that easy right?”

“There must be something else?”

“No, it’s the brand”.

I was in my mid-30s back then.

And didn’t really get what he meant at the time.

It’s only now I truly understand the importance of his words.

Right beside it, there’s a generic cola that looks similar but lacks the recognizable branding.

Most customers will choose Coca-Cola.

Even if the generic cola is cheaper.
